What music has made the biggest difference in your life?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 04, 2009:
There are so many artists whose work I love, and who have influenced my life. It would be unfair to start naming names, cuz there's not room to list them all. Generally speaking, my taste is eclectic and non-commercial.
I would say that the music of WYCE, the community radio station where I've been a volunteer dj for 9 years, has had the greatest impact on me. That would be a huge variety of Folk, Blues, Jazz, Rock & Worldbeat. Getting my hands into the stacks of 17,000+ cds every week, creating a 3 hour show and sharing it with the world, has made a great difference in my life. As a simple creative outlet. As emotional processing. As a celebration of life. As a way of learning to express myself clearly and be in the moment. As a tool to understand the power of voices.
I'm grateful for the pleasure and the priviledge of getting to play radio and be that steeped in the music, week after week, and through the years.

Help

That would be cool to be able to listen to so much music. Wow! Really, you create a 3 hour show each week? Do you have a link? Could any of us listen to you? If we click on WYCE, can we find your voice? You are so cool, Ms. Janet!!
Kathy just allowed me to break out into the giggles.
I’m grateful that your ear is so well tuned to the waves that move my world.
Music is the breeze that fills my sail and permits me to maintain a small portion of lucidity in a insane world, and you are so cool :-)
Yes, Kathy, all you have to do is click the link on my profile page and it will take you right to the radio station’s website. My show is Mon 3-6pm
I find it amusing too Larry:-)
love, Breezy
goodness you two, what’s so funny? Just an innocent question and you’re both amused?? Thank you. I should write this down somewhere, Monday afternoon, or it will be forgotten forever….
It’s just funny cuz many weeks I post it in my status bar that I’m doing radio and I sport my dj icon. I have a few devoted gaia listeners. You’re so cute. I love you!!!
…even I know Kathy..and you know I’m dutch and blonde….(LUVYALOTS KATHY, just teasing)
Janet, You rock!
Besides that, it gives me such a feeling of connectedness to actually hear your voice and know that other friends out there are listening as well, it makes the world so small and Gaia friends so much more real.
Lucienne~ I didn’t know you have listened. Whoohooo. I really do get such a thrill from knowing my Gaia friends have tuned in.
btw~ Grand Rapids, where I live, has a huge Dutch population and is home to the Christian Reformed Church. We’re full of Van-this and De-that..:-) My great grandfather DeHeer came over on the boat…
hey janet
when iget to belgium and get my own place n my own internet connection
i ll go find your radio station ya? I m kinda just not around on wireless long enough to even do youtube as i d like, often the song just hangs cos wireless just hangs. :)
love u lah
I’m not always there mondays, but I told you before I catch some of yr stream!
Just a question since you’re in the broadcasting scene. I find lists of all the stations in the US on the web, but then sometimes I get the stations and sometimes not. And when I can’t get them the reason is stated as having to do something with me being outside of the US and a license or something. First I thought it was perhaps state law, but apparently not, because within the same state I do get some stations and others not. Do you happen to know what this is about?
Hu-lah! If you get a chance, you might enjoy it. Let me know if you do check it out.
Lu-lah~ I’m not sure what that would be about. I wonder whether they are internet stations or regular broadcast stations that also stream? I’ll check around and see if I can find out anything.
